KARACHI: Chief of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Monem Zafar Khan said on Wednesday that Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan is currently supporting 32,000 orphaned and underprivileged children across the country. Under the Alkhidmat Orphan Care Programme in Karachi, 2,500 children are being facilitated with Eid shopping at a local shopping mall. Speaking to the media on the third day of the activity at a mall in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Monem Zafar said each child was provided Rs 6,000 for Eid shopping along with Rs500 as Eidi. The children were accompanied by their mothers or guardians to ensure they could fully enjoy the Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations. He said Alkhidmat Foundation was actively serving in key sectors including education, healthcare and provision of clean drinking water. Referring to February 25, the death anniversary of former City Nazim Niamatullah Khan, he paid tribute to his exemplary public service and welfare work, describing him as a symbol of integrity and dedication. He said Niamatullah Khan’s efforts played a vital role in establishing Alkhidmat’s recognition at the global level. On the occasion, Alkhidmat Executive Director Rashid Qureshi, Director Orphan Care Programme Yousuf Mohiuddin, other officials, and a large number of students from schools, colleges and universities participated as volunteers. Monem Zafar said Alkhidmat organises Eid shopping for orphaned children every year. Children registered under the Orphan Care Programme have been receiving monthly financial assistance at their homes for years, while training programmes are also arranged for their mothers. He further shared that Alkhidmat operates 24 Aghosh Homes across Pakistan. In Karachi, a boys’ Aghosh Home is located in Gulshan-e-Maymar, while a girls’ facility has been established in PECHS, where children are provided modern boarding facilities and quality education. Graduates of the programme have gone on to become doctors, engineers and other professionals serving the nation. Children residing in Aghosh Homes will also be facilitated with Eid shopping. Highlighting the situation in Palestine, Monem Zafar said that amid local celebrations, the suffering of Palestinian children must not be forgotten. Referring to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, he said tens of thousands, including a large number of women and children, have been martyred. He reaffirmed solidarity with the people of Gaza and said Alkhidmat has sent significant humanitarian aid via sea and air routes and continues its relief efforts.
