"Venezuelan National Assembly President Jorge Rodríguez announced on Wednesday that Attorney General Tarek William Saab and Ombudsman Alfredo Josу Ruiz Angulo resigned from their posts after being ratified for seven-year terms in October 2024. "In effect, we have in our possession formal letters addressed by the Attorney General of the Republic, Dr Tarek William Saab, and by the Ombudsman, Dr Alfredo Jose Ruiz Angulo, in which they express their decision to resign from their respective posts as Attorney General of the Republic and as Ombudsman of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela," Rodriguez said during a parliament session in Caracas. He stated that the National Assembly will be responsible for selecting new holders of both posts, "while the Nominations Committee is activated." Following the announcements, the legislature appointed human rights lawyer Larry Daniel Devoe as acting attorney general. No reasons were provided for either resignation, and neither Saab nor Ruiz Angulo issued public statements explaining their decisions to leave their positions."
