Red tide alert raised in several Bohol coastal localities

TAGBILARAN CITY — The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) in Central Visayas has warned the public against consuming shellfish from the coastal waters of Dauis town and Tagbilaran City in Bohol province after samples tested positive for red tide toxins. In a local shellfish advisory signed by BFAR-7 Regional Director Mario Ruinata and issued on February 23, 2026, the agency reported that water samples collected on February 20 were found positive for Pyrodinium bahamense, a harmful microorganism that produces toxins causing paralytic shellfish poisoning.
