78 Filipinos in Myanmar prison; 18 still awaiting rescue in scam hubs

BANGKOK, Thailand – Filipino families are calling for urgent government intervention after their relatives, lured by promises of legitimate work abroad, were instead trafficked into scam hubs in Myanmar and are now detained for “illegal entry,” at Hpa-An Taungkalay Prison in Kayin State since January 7. The 78 individuals, 27 are females and 51 males were previously rescued in scam centers in Myawaddy, Myanmar on December 11, 2025.
