A well-known antiques market in Ontario is hitting the pause button on its operations as it works through unexpected financial troubles. The St. Jacobs Antiques Market , located roughly an hour and a half away from Toronto at 805 King St. N., is gearing up to temporarily close its doors next month. The 20,000 square foot market sits just across the street from the iconic St. Jacobs Farmers' Market, and features over 100 antique dealer booths selling everything from furniture and glassware to clothing, collectibles, and estate jewellery. The market is typically open every day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with new merchandise arriving daily. In emails shared with CTV News , the market's owner informed vendors that the "store's bank account has been frozen," and as a result, all sales will pause on March 1. Along with these financial challenges, the owner wrote that the cheques issued to vendors were also returned. On Thursday, the market announced via its official Instagram page that it would be temporarily closing due to "restructuring" changes. News of the market's temporary closure quickly spread on social media, including local Facebook groups. "I walked through there yesterday. A lot of empty booths, but vendors also staying. Staff explained they aren't closing but refreshing — so it sounds like they want to change some things up and maybe get some fresh vendors, maybe renovate, and new booth setups," one person wrote in reaction to the news. "Great place to browse but I rarely buy there. Prices are just too much. I did wonder how they were staying open," another person added. At the time of this article's publication, the market has not set a date for its reopening.
