BUREAU of Corrections (BuCor) Director General Gregorio Pio Catapang Jr. said Thursday that circulating reports claiming he was about to be replaced were fabricated. The BuCor chief urged the public to exercise critical thinking and verify information before accepting it as fact. He added that the spread of unverified information poses a serious threat not only to the institution’s credibility but also to public trust in government agencies. “We are in an age where misinformation spreads like wildfire. It is crucial for the public to remain vigilant and discerning,” he said. Catapang expressed confidence in the bureau’s leadership and personnel. “Our focus remains on our goals and the positive impact we strive to make,” he added. He noted that confronting fake news was vital to safeguarding the reputation of BuCor and preserving the integrity of public institutions.
