BUREAU of Corrections (BuCor) Director General Gregorio Pio Catapang Jr. said Thursday that circulating reports claiming he was about to be replaced were fabricated. ​The BuCor chief urged the public to exercise critical thinking and verify information before accepting it as fact. He added that the spread of unverified information poses a serious threat not only to the institution’s credibility but also to public trust in government agencies. ​“We are in an age where misinformation spreads like wildfire. It is crucial for the public to remain vigilant and discerning,” he said. ​Catapang expressed confidence in the bureau’s leadership and personnel. ​“Our focus remains on our goals and the positive impact we strive to make,” he added. ​He noted that confronting fake news was vital to safeguarding the reputation of BuCor and preserving the integrity of public institutions.
