"The United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Occupied Palestinian Territories, Francesca Albanese, responded to calls from French diplomats for her resignation, saying she and her family had been subjected to personal attacks and defamation. "I have heard about the comments of the French ambassador. It seems that the French diplomacy has changed its mind. Wouldn't it be nice if they added also a word of apology considering this mere campaign that they've been part of?" Albanese said in a video address during a UN meeting in Geneva on Thursday. She went on urging to 'hold accountable' organisations that "fabricate defamations against anyone who dares scrutinising Israel." "These actors need to be held accountable because what I mean - clearly they have provided false information that the French diplomats and others, or the French minister and others have relied upon which is already disconcerting," Albanese concluded. Earlier, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, along with several French lawmakers, called for Albanese to resign, condemning her statements allegedly describing Israel as 'the common enemy of humanity'. Following the outbreak of war between Israel and Hamas in October 2023, Albanese has faced accusations from Israel and its allies of spreading 'anti-Semitic rhetoric and blood libels'. She has denied the allegations, maintaining that her work is professional and grounded in international law."
