A total of 483 counterfeit euro banknotes were detected among banknotes in circulation in Finland in 2025, said the Bank of Finland in a press release on Friday. The number of counterfeit euro banknotes detected in the last year was lower than the numbers in 2024, 2023 and 2021 but slightly higher than 2022. The authority detected 714, 653, 469 and 523 counterfeit euro notes in 2024, 2023, 2022 and 2021 respectively. Among the denominations in circulation in Finland in 2025, the EUR 50 banknote was the most frequently found counterfeit note (251 counterfeits) while the number of 20 euros notes was 130. The number of EUR 10 counterfeit notes was 47. “The number of counterfeit euro banknotes detected in circulation has decreased compared with the last year and the previous year, and remains small relative to the rest of the euro area,” said Olli Vehmas, Banknote Specialist of the Bank of Finland.
