Capital city witnesses over 52 cases of various crimes within one week

ISLAMABAD: The capital city witnessed over 52 cases of various crimes during the past week, including carjacking, robbery, dacoity and street crime. According to data compiled by Business Recorder , a total of 52 criminal cases were reported at different police stations across Islamabad. These included 29 cases of carjacking, 11 incidents of street crime involving the snatching of purses and mobile phones at gunpoint and 10 cases of robbery. In these incidents, the city’s residents were deprived of valuables worth millions of rupees. During the last week criminal gangs remain active within the limits of Golra, Indsutrial Area, Karachi Compnay, Noon and Khanna police stations. Residents of these areas have expressed serious concerns over the rising crime rate and urged police authorities to take stringent action against criminal gangs. In the same period, robbers shot and injured a woman during a street robbery and looted over two and a half million worth of valuables. The incident took place when the woman was returning home in a vehicle after shopping. Two motorcycle riders intercepted her when she reached DHA Phase III and held her at gunpoint. Shortly, the gunmen looted gold ornaments weighing six tolas and a mobile phone from her. The gunmen also fired at her, and as a result, she sustained a bullet injury in her hand. During another incident, a suspect was injured while another escaped during an encounter with the police at Khanna, police said. Over the incident, a case has been registered under sections 324, 353, 411, 186, and 427 of the PPC and sections 13 and 20 of the Arms Ordinance. In the same period, one case each of robbery, street crimes and two cases of auto theft reported to Golar police station and another two cases of street crime and one case each of robbery and a carjacking registered at Industrial Area police station. Furthermore, one case each of street crime and robbery and two cases of auto theft registered at Karachi Company police station as well as auto thieves stole two bikes and robbers stuck at place in the in the limits of Noon police station. During the last week, Khanna police station registered one case each of robbery, street crime and auto theft as well as two cases of carjacking reported to Margalla police station.
