'No one will be left without support' - Brazil's Lula visits flood-hit Juiz de Fora, vows homes and financial aid

"Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva visited flood-devastated Juiz de Fora on Saturday, promising free homes and immediate financial support to families affected by torrential rains that have killed at least 70 people across Minas Gerais state. Footage shows Lula speaking with affected residents, expressing solidarity and pledging government assistance during his visit to the hardest-hit city. "We are going to help these people recover by giving them houses, helping them to receive part of the guarantee fund they are entitled to," Lula da Silva said, stressing, "No one who has been harmed by the rain, no one who has been affected by the landslide, will be left without support." He announced that a purchase assistance system would be adopted, under which citizens will be able to choose a set amount to buy a home that meets their needs in any city in Minas Gerais. He also stated that "the government will finance, will give the house free of charge [...] to those who lose their homes," guaranteeing that assistance will be provided to everyone who requires it. "In times of misfortune, we must not remain stuck in bureaucracy that goes to paper. [...] Let us all take responsibility," the leader added. According to the Minas Gerais Fire Brigade, the rains left at least 70 people dead, 64 of them in Juiz de Fora and six in Uba, in addition to dozens reported missing. "
