The Greens and SPÖ Finance Minister Markus Marterbauer support an inheritance tax, while ÖVP, NEOS, and FPÖ are against it. This tax was abolished in Austria in 2008, similar to some other European countries. Nevertheless, Austria is in the minority, as 17 out of 27 EU countries have an inheritance tax, according to WIFO economist Margit Schratzenstaller.
