Holy city under attack - Smoke near Jerusalem's sacred sites following reported rocket strike amid Israel-Iran crisis

"Rockets struck near a holy site in Jerusalem on Sunday, causing damage but no reported casualties, according to Israel Police. Footage released on Sunday shows the exact impact site marked in a red circle, with smoke rising immediately after the attack. "Jerusalem District police officers and saboteurs worked to scan locations where weapons were detected in the area, following the sounds of an explosion and smoke detection from an open area located a few hundred metres from the holy sites in the Old City," the police statement read, adding, "The forces located an Iranian missile warhead, as well as other incendiary and explosive materials scattered throughout the area. The bomb squad defused the item and transported it for further study at the police bomb labs." It comes after the United States and Israel launched a joint military operation on Saturday against Iran, with US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowing to 'destroy Iran’s missiles'. In response, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced 'large-scale missile and drone attacks' targeting Israel. Reports also indicated that US military bases across the region, including in the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, Iraq and Kuwait, were struck amid the escalation. Trump later confirmed Khamenei’s death, describing it as "the greatest opportunity for the Iranian people to reclaim their homeland." Ali Khamenei served as Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the country’s highest political and religious authority, since June 4, 1989. He succeeded Ruhollah Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic. Khamenei remained in power for more than three decades, making him one of the longest-serving leaders in modern Middle Eastern history."
