Video shows missiles lifting off and streaking into the night sky. However, the exact launch location, timing and trajectory could not be independently verified. In an accompanying statement, the IRGC vowed retaliation, declaring that “this great crime will not go unpunished, and a new chapter in the history of the Islamic world will be written.” Earlier on Sunday, Iranian state television announced that Khamenei had been killed during joint military strikes by the United States and Israel targeting Tehran. The strikes marked the most significant escalation in decades between Iran and its adversaries. US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had previously vowed to dismantle Iran’s missile capabilities as part of the operation. In response, the Revolutionary Guard announced it had launched “large-scale missile and drone attacks” against Israeli targets, while reports indicated that US military facilities across the region were also targeted, including bases in the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, Iraq and Kuwait."
