"Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday that his forces were striking 'the heart of Tehran' with growing force and would increase attacks in the coming days following the reported death of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. "We eliminated dozens of senior figures in the oppressive regime. Our forces are now striking the heart of Tehran with increasing strength, and this will only increase even more in the coming days," Netanyahu said. "We are in a campaign in which we are bringing the entire strength of the Israel Defence Forces, as never before, to this campaign to ensure our existence and our future. But we are also bringing to this campaign the assistance of the United States, my friend, US President Donald Trump, and the US military," he added. It comes after the United States and Israel launched a joint military operation on Saturday against Iran, with US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowing to 'destroy Iran’s missiles'. In response, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced 'large-scale missile and drone attacks' targeting Israel. Reports indicated that US military bases across the region, including in the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, Iraq and Kuwait, were struck amid the escalation. Trump later confirmed Khamenei's death, describing it as "the greatest opportunity for the Iranian people to reclaim their homeland." Ali Khamenei served as Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the country's highest political and religious authority, since June 4, 1989. He succeeded Ruhollah Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic. Khamenei remained in power for more than three decades, making him one of the longest-serving leaders in modern Middle Eastern history."
