"Thousands of Houthi supporters gathered in Al-Sabeen Square in Sanaa on Sunday for a mass rally mourning Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and expressing solidarity with Iran following the joint US-Israeli strikes that killed him. Footage shows large crowds filling the square, raising portraits of Khamenei and waving Yemeni, Iranian and Palestinian flags, as demonstrators chanted slogans and declared support for Iran. The a mass mobilisation was called in solidarity with Iran and as a signal of readiness to respond to regional developments following the escalation. In a statement, the Houthi-run Foreign Ministry mourned Khamenei’s death, describing him as a central figure in Iran’s political and ideological leadership and asserting that his killing would strengthen Iran’s resolve to defend its sovereignty and continue its strategic path. Iranian state television had earlier announced Khamenei’s death following strikes on Tehran carried out as part of a joint US-Israeli military operation. The assassination marks one of the most consequential developments in Iran’s modern history, given Khamenei’s role as the country’s highest political and religious authority for more than three decades. In response, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps vowed retaliation, describing the killing as a turning point and warning that it would reshape the regional balance. The escalation follows a major military campaign launched by Washington and Tel Aviv targeting Iranian military infrastructure, with U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stating their objective was to dismantle Iran’s missile capabilities."
