'War of free people' - US-Israeli flags set ablaze in Istanbul as dozens condemn killing of Supreme Leader Khamenei

"Dozens of residents took to the streets of Istanbul on Sunday, condemning the killing of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in the joint attack conducted by US and Israeli forces on Tehran. Footage shows protesters waving Iranian flags and holding photos of the Supreme Leader as they marched towards the Israeli Consulate. Some demonstrators were seen setting fire to US and Israeli flags while chanting slogans. "Today, the world leader and Islamic leader are of no importance to humanity. Khamenei was not just a martyr; Khamenei was a martyr who did not want to die in his bed at the age of 86. And this was Khamenei's fate, thank God," said protester Imdat Atabey. "This war is not just Iran's war. This war is the war of the ummah, the war of free people. Iran must continue the war, and this war will continue. Sometimes tensions rise and fall, but this war will continue until Israel is destroyed," added protester Kadir Akaaras. Turkish President Recep Erdogan condemned the joint US-Israeli strikes, describing them as 'unlawful', as he offered his condolences to the Iranian people following Khamenei's killing. Iranian state media reported the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei during the attacks, prompting Tehran to declare 40 days of national mourning and a seven-day public holiday, with all government offices and schools closed as the country prepares for funeral rites. The United States and Israel launched a joint strike on Saturday, with US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowing to 'destroy Iran's missiles.' In response, Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps said that 'widespread missile and drone attacks' against Israel were underway. US bases were also reportedly targeted in the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Iraq and Kuwait."
