"European Commission spokesperson Anouar El Anouni said in Brussels on Monday that the EU had taken action against Iran's leadership, stressing it was for the Iranian people to 'decide their own future'. "This is why we have been taking action in terms of the measures and the actions of this regime, together with the foreign ministers, when we adopted sanctions, different kinds of sanctions under different regimes, to actually address the multifaceted threats that we have seen coming from this regime," El Anouni said. "We remain true to our values, and it is for the people of Iran to decide their own future. At the same time, what we are doing here is reiterating our solidarity with the Iranian people, and we strongly support their fundamental aspirations for a future where their universal human rights are respected," he added. It comes after the United States and Israel launched a joint strike on Saturday, with US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowing to 'destroy Iran's missiles.' In response, Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps said that 'widespread missile and drone attacks' against Israel were underway. US bases were also reportedly targeted in the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Iraq and Kuwait."
