"Prime Minister Viktor Orban said his government will release satellite images that proves the Druzhba oil pipeline is operational and was not directly impacted by alleged Russian attacks, as Ukraine claims. "Based on the satellite imagery and operational intelligence available to us, it is clear that the Druzhba oil pipeline is operational," Orban said in a video statement, adding that his government would make the images public. He added that there were no technical obstacles to restarting oil flows. Hungary and Slovakia are the only European Union countries still receiving Russian oil via the southern branch of the Druzhba oil pipeline. Orban called on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to allow Hungarian and Slovak observers into Ukraine to inspect the pipeline, warning that ‘countermeasures’ would continue to be implemented until oil deliveries resume. "President Zelensky is clearly blackmailing Hungary. But Hungary will not give in and we will break this oil blockade," he warned. Hungary has halted diesel supplies to Ukraine and blocked the 20th package of EU sanctions on Russia and said it would halt the bloc's latest €90 billion loan to Ukraine unless the oil supply through the pipeline continues. The Druzhba pipeline has long been a key route for Russian oil deliveries to parts of Central Europe, including Hungary, even as the EU has moved to curb reliance following the outbreak of the Russia–Ukraine war in 2022."
