‘UN stopped fulfilling its mission’ - Sheinbaum as Middle East chaos deepens after US-Israeli attack on Iran

"Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, said the United Nations ‘has stopped fulfilling its mission’ as she addressed the recent attack of US and Israel against Iran during her daily press conference on Monday in Mexico City. Sheinbaum argued that “the countries with the greatest military power are the ones that prevail” in the international arena, adding that “the UN has lost more and more strength, and that cannot be." The Mexican president called for renewed commitment to multilateralism and diplomatic solutions in the face of global conflicts.

She also commented on the situation in Cuba, which is under US energy blockade, and confirmed that “we are going to continue sending aid to Cuba.” Her remarks come amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, as world leaders urge restraint and dialogue to prevent further escalation. The US and Israel attacked Iran on Saturday morning. Tehran said it was responding with strikes on Israel and US assets in the region, with strikes reported in countries right across the Gulf region. Donald Trump admitted that three US personnel were killed and that more deaths were 'likely'. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was confirmed dead in a strike on Saturday. It comes after a number of rounds of talks between the Americans and Iranians."
