‘Israel is bombing us indiscriminately!’ - Families gather at Lebanon’s border with Syria after fleeing IDF blitz

"Hundreds of displaced people gathered at Lebanon’s Masnaa border crossing with Syria on Monday, after Israeli airstrikes against Beirut’s southern suburbs and villages in southern Lebanon. This follows rocket fire from Hezbollah into Israel, in response to Tel Aviv’s assault on Iran. Footage shows families waiting inside their cars as they attempted to cross the border, with some reporting that they have been waiting for hours for the opportunity to cross over. “I lived in the southern suburbs. At around 3 am, we left for the seaside, then returned home when things calmed down. After packing our belongings, we decided to head to Syria,” said Omran Zahra, another displaced resident. Earlier on Monday, Hezbollah said it had targeted the Mishmar HaCarmel missile defence compound south of Haifa with what it described as a barrage of missiles and drones in response to the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader. Following this, the Israeli military launched strikes on multiple villages in southern Lebanon after issuing evacuation warnings to residents in 53 areas, after the southern suburbs of Beirut had also been struck earlier in the day. Israeli Army Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir said Hezbollah bore full responsibility for the escalation, which caused a wave of displacement in Lebanon. The developments come after a joint US–Israeli strike on Iran on Saturday. US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the operation aimed to eliminate Iran’s missile capabilities. Meanwhile, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it had launched ‘large-scale missile and drone attacks’ against Israel. Reports also indicated that US bases in the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, Iraq and Kuwait were targeted. "
