Feb CPI inflation clocks in at 7pc YoY

ISLAMABAD: The Consumer Price Index-based inflation clocked in at 7 percent on a Year-on-Year (YoY) basis in February 2026 as compared to an increase of 5.8 percent in the previous month and 1.5 percent in February 2025, says the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS). Data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) here on Monday revealed that on a month-on-month (MoM) basis, CPI increased by 0.3 percent in February 2026, compared to an increase of 0.4 percent in the previous month and an increase of 0.8 percent in February 2025. The CPI inflation (urban) increased by 6.8 percent on YoY in February 2026, as compared to an increase of 5.8 percent in the previous month and an increase of 1.8 percent in February 2025. On a MoM basis, it increased by 0.3 percent in February 2026 compared to an increase of 0.2 percent in the previous month and a decrease of 0.7 percent in February 2025. READ MORE: Inflation in Pakistan clocks in at 5.8% in January 2026 CPI inflation (Rural) increased by 7.3 percent on a YoY basis in February 2026 as compared to an increase of 5.8 percent in the previous month and 1.1 percent in February 2025. On a MoM basis, it increased by 0.3 percent in February 2026, compared to an increase of 0.6 percent in the previous month and a decrease of 1.1 percent in February 2025. SPI inflation on a YoY basis increased by 4.8 percent in February 2026 as compared to an increase of 3.3 percent in the previous month and -0.2 percent in February 2025. On a MoM basis, it decreased by 0.1 percent in February 2026 as compared to a decrease of 0.8 percent in January 2026 and a decrease of 1.6 percent in February 2025. The Wholesale Price Index (WPI) inflation on a YoY basis increased by 1 percent in February 2026 as compared to an increase of 0.2 percent in the previous month and a decrease of 0.7 percent in February 2025. On a month-on-month basis, it increased by 0.7 percent in February 2026 as compared to a decrease of 0.2 percent in the previous month and a decrease of 0.2 percent in February 2025. Measured by non-food non-energy Urban increased by 7.1percenton a YoY basis in February 2026 as compared to 7.2percentof the previous month and 7.8percentin February 2025. On MoM basis, it increased by 0.2percentin February 2026 as compared to 1percent in the previous month and an increase of 0.3percentin the corresponding month of last year, ie, February 2025. Measured by non-food non-energy Rural remained stable at 8.3percenton a YoYbasis in February 2026 as compared to the previous month, and an increase of 10.4percentin February 2025. On a MoM basis, it increased by 0.4percentin February 2026 as compared to 1.1percentin the previous month and an increase of 0.4percentin the corresponding month of last year, ie, February 2025. Core inflation trimmed measured by a 20 percent weighted trimmed mean Urban increased by 5.1percenton a YoY basis in February 2026, as compared to 4.9percentin the previous month and 4.6percentin February 2025. On MoM basis, it increased by 0.2percentin February 2026 as compared to an increase of 0.5percenta month earlier and an increase of 0.1percentin the corresponding month of last year i.e. February 2025. Measured by a 20 percent weighted trimmed mean Rural increased by 5.6percenton (YoY) basis in February 2026 as compared to an increase of 5.4percentof the previous month and 5.2percent in February 2025. On MoM basis, it increased by 0.3percentin February 2026 as compared to an increase of 0.7percentin the previous month and an increase of 0.1percent in the corresponding month of last year, ie, February 2025. Top few commodities which varied from previous month, ie, January, 2026 are given below: Tomatoes 23.05percent, fresh fruits 11.48 percent, pulse mash 8.19percent, beverages 1.65percent, meat 1.45percent, pulse moong 1.25percent, mustard oil 1.20percent, dry fruits 0.78percent, wheat products 0.68percent, readymade food 0.44percent and pulse gram 0.34percent. Prices of the following food items decreased: Eggs 22.39percent, chicken 19.99percent, potatoes 15.89percent, pulse masoor4.03percent, onions 3.90percent, fresh vegetables 3.88percent, besan 1.67percent, vegetable ghee 0.99percent, cooking oil 0.94percent, gur 0.39percent, sugar 0.35percent and gram whole 0.17percent.
