25-kg tumour removed from 71-year-old patient in Romania

A 25-kilogram tumor has been successfully removed from a 71-year-old patient at the Cluj-Napoca County Emergency Clinical Hospital in northwestern Romania, hospital officials said Monday, reported Xinhua. The lipomatous tumor, measuring about 40 centimeters in diameter, has occupied much of the patient's abdominal and pelvic cavities, according to a statement posted on the hospital's official Facebook page. Doctors said the complex operation was particularly challenging because the patient had multiple underlying heart conditions. During the procedure, doctors also removed the patient's right kidney and part of the colon, which were affected by the tumor. Several days after the operation, the patient is recovering favorably, according to the statement.
