US President Donald Trump welcomed German Chancellor Friedrich Merz to the White House on Tuesday for talks as ​the US-Israel war ‌against Iran widened, sending oil prices to their highest level since 2024. Trump, speaking in ⁠the Oval Office alongside Merz, told reporters the two leaders would speak about the war, adding the German leader has "been helping out."
