Raumati Beach death: Murder charge laid over Kāpiti Coast incident

A man who allegedly wounded a Raumati Beach woman who later died has now been charged with her murder, a month on from her death. Police rushed to the Kāpiti Coast property at 1.15am on February 8 after receiving a report of someone being injured. The woman was found dead at the scene. The 24-year-old man, who was earlier charged with wounding the woman, had his first appearance on the murder charge today at the Porirua District Court. The man, who has interim name suppression, appeared over audio visual link. He has been remanded in custody to reappear in the High Court at Wellington at a later date. The woman who died was previously described as a “beautiful lady” who “stuck up for everything great in this world”. The woman’s friend told the Herald he had known the woman and her partner for a few years and had “done many things together as family”. “She was very strong in nature,” he said. He remembered her as a woman who loved her family and friends and was “always looking out for others”. “She was a soul searcher and a believer in the stars.” Sammy Carter is a journalist for the New Zealand Herald covering news in the Wellington region.
