"Dozens of protesters burnt American and Israeli flags in front of the US Consulate General in Rio de Janeiro in protest against the recent attacks by both countries against Iran. Footage filmed on Tuesday shows the protesters burning the flags while chanting anti-imperialist slogans and displaying signs with messages such as 'Yankees out of Latin America', 'Israel murderous state' and 'Make Iran a new Vienna'. "We believe that we are at a historic moment in which the Islamic Republic of Iran can deliver a major blow to US imperialism, as well as destroy the terrorist and Zionist state of Israel," said a protester. Leandro, another protester, noted that the attacks on Iran are an excuse to 'have absolute control <…> Not only Latin America, but also that part of the Middle East' to 'plunder and rob it'. "A good argument is the issue of the nuclear bomb. This is a lie. The objective of the United States is to control the region. Iran, regardless of the considerations we may make regarding the Iranian regime, is the last country that is not dominated by US imperialism," the man explained. The US and Israel launched a joint military operation against Iran on Saturday, February 28, with President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowing to 'destroy Iran’s missiles'. In response, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced 'large-scale missile and drone attacks' targeting Israeli territory. Regional reports also indicated that US military facilities across the Middle East, including bases in the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, Iraq and Kuwait, were struck amid the widening confrontation. Iranian state media confirmed that Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed during the strikes. Trump described the development as “the greatest opportunity for the Iranian people to reclaim their homeland". The escalations follow three recent rounds of nuclear talks between Iranian and American officials, one held in Muscat and two in Geneva."
