"Law enforcement agencies across Miami-Dade County increased security patrols around Jewish synagogues on Tuesday as the community marked the Purim holiday against the backdrop of escalating tensions between the United States, Israel and Iran. Footage shows patrol cars from the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office, along with Bal Harbour, Surfside and Bay Harbour police departments, stationed outside several synagogues. Officers remained on site as worshippers gathered for prayers and celebrations. According to reports, the heightened presence followed consultations with community leaders after US-Israel military strikes on Iran over the weekend. "At the shul, there is police protection in addition to internal security, which is important, and we can come here peacefully not only to pray but also to share with friends," said a member of the Jewish community. The stepped-up patrols come as tensions in the Middle East continue to mount. The United States and Israel launched joint military operations against Iran on Saturday, with President Donald Trump vowing to "raze their missile industry to the ground." Iranian state television confirmed that Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed in the strikes. Khamenei, who had ruled since 1989, held ultimate authority over Iranís political, military and religious institutions. Iranian officials warned that his killing would mark a turning point, with the Revolutionary Guard vowing retaliation and declaring that "this great crime will not go unpunished." Tehran responded with a series of missile and drone strikes targeting Israel and US military bases in the Gulf. The escalation follows three recent rounds of nuclear talks between Iranian and American officials, one held in Muscat and two in Geneva."
