Israeli F-35 downs Iranian fighter jet over Tehran - IDF spox confirms continued offensive on Iran and Hezbollah

"Israel Defence Forces (IDF) Spokesperson Brigadier General Efi Dufferin confirmed that the Israeli military has shot down an Iranian fighter jet over Tehran and carried out extensive overnight strikes on missile infrastructure, as US-Israel-Iran hostilities continue. "A short time ago, an Adir fighter jet shot down an Iranian fighter jet over Iranian airspace, over Tehran. This is the first-ever downing of a manned fighter jet by an F-35 aircraft," Dufferin said during a press conference on Wednesday. He continued that the military had completed "a widespread wave of attacks against the fire and missile array of the Iranian terror regime", with fighter jets striking more than 20 targets in Isfahan and Shiraz overnight. Israel’s F-35I 'Adir', a customised variant of the US-built stealth aircraft, forms a central part of the country’s long-range strike capability. Military analysts have previously noted that any confirmed air-to-air kill by an F-35 would represent a significant milestone for the platform, although there was no immediate independent confirmation of the claim. Dufferin said the latest operation formed part of Israel’s 'offensive plan', aimed at inflicting severe damage across Iran’s missile chain "from the missile arsenal, through the production infrastructure, through the radar systems, and up to the launchers themselves". The spokesperson also addressed the northern front. "During the night, the Hezbollah terrorist organisation continued its attempt to jeopardise the security of civilians" and launched missiles towards Israel. Dufferin said that within 48 hours, the IDF had attacked more than 250 Hezbollah targets across Lebanon. "Hezbollah is an Iranian proxy in Lebanon," he said, adding that additional evacuation notices had been issued to villages and warning Iranian forces operating in Lebanon to leave within 24 hours. "Leave Lebanon, or we will attack you." The US and Israel first attacked Iran on Saturday morning, with airstrikes continuing since. Tehran said it was responding with strikes on Israel and US assets in the region, with strikes reported in countries right across the Gulf region. The US side confirmed six deaths of military personnel on Monday. Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was confirmed dead in a strike on Saturday. It comes after a number of rounds of talks between the Americans and Iranians."
