Police probe into Vantaa arson case as murder

Police are investigating into the suspected arson took place at Pähkinärinte area in Vantaa on March 3 as murder, attempted murder and aggravated vandalism, said police on Wednesday. The Eastern Uusimaa Police interrogated the suspect and found that the fire was set deliberately, said police. The head investigator, Sanna Rentola said that the interrogation will continue and the suspect will likely to be placed before the court on Friday seeking remand into custody. Police, however, did not disclose details information at the preliminary stage of the investigation. They are also waiting for autopsy reports of the bodies and results of other tests. The preliminary investigation may continue for several months and will involve various authorities. Five people of a same family were burnt to death in the fire at a residential building at Pähkinärinte in Vantaa on March 3. The victims were a couple aged between 30 and 40 and their three children aged 3, 6 and 8 with Somali background. Police arrested a 70-year-old native Finnish man, a resident of the same building as the suspect of the arson. All residents of the building were evacuated and police cordoned the building.
