'Beyond Bali' - Indonesia deputy min pushes safe tourism to Germany as campaign shines at ITB Berlin pavilion

"Deputy Minister for Tourism Ni Made Ayu Marthini said Indonesia’s tourism sector is unlikely to be significantly affected by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, stressing that the archipelago remains a safe option for travellers. “We are monitoring the situation, but Indonesia is very fortunate to be in Southeast Asia, whereby we have Pacific and Australian Ocean, and it's a crossroads, but it's far from the conflict,” she said at the 'Wonderful Indonesia' pavilion on Tuesday at ITB Berlin 2026 at Messe Berlin, promoting the 'GoBeyondOrdinary' campaign to highlight high-quality, sustainable, and regenerative tourism. Footage shows visitors walking through the ITB Berlin 2026 venue, taking photos with participants in traditional costumes and sampling food. The Indonesian Pavilion, 'Wonderful Indonesia,' spans 441 square meters and features traditional performances, with dignitaries delivering speeches at an award ceremony. Ni explained Germany’s importance for the country's tourism sector. “Germany, Europe in general, is very important, and Germany is one of the top two highest contributors for our tourists from Europe […] They tend to stay longer in Indonesia, which is good for us,” she said. She said the curious appeal of Indonesia’s 17,000 islands is drawing visitors towards the pavilion, adding, "Yes, Bali is so famous, still is, until now, attraction, almost 50 per cent of tourists come to Bali, but we say, hey, we have more, like Bali, as good, as famous, as beautiful..." Visitors enjoyed traditional performances, gastronomy, and local crafts, making the pavilion a vibrant highlight of ITB Berlin 2026. According to reports, the 'GoBeyondOrdinary' campaign at the Indonesian Pavilion focuses on regenerative, community-based, and eco-friendly tourism. The country aims to promote its five 'Super Priority Tourism Destinations', with a focus on North Sumatra and cultural experiences. The pavilion features partners like 'Tourism Villages by Bakti BCA' to showcase local, community-driven offerings. The Ministry of Tourism expects 498,000–541,000 potential tourist interactions, aiming for IDR 12.9–14.3 trillion (763 - 846 million USD) in foreign-exchange revenue."
