New bill mandates World War II subject for all college students

THE House of Representatives on Tuesday approved House Bill 7808, which seeks to integrate a comprehensive study of the country’s history during World War II into the higher education curriculum. "The House has been moving key education reforms with discipline, and this bill ensures our history is taught with the depth and seriousness it deserves," said House Majority Leader Ferdinand Alexander "Sandro" Marcos, the representative for Ilocos Norte's 1st district and one of the bill's authors. Under the bill, which passed third and final reading with 250 votes, the study "shall cover not less than 50 percent of the mandatory Philippine History subject being offered under the general education curriculum in higher education courses of all higher education institutions (HEIs) in the country." The bill stated that the Commission on Higher Education, in close collaboration with the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office-Department of National Defense, shall develop a program to execute and implement the provisions of the measure.
