"Israeli Knesset MP Ofer Cassif - and one of the few voices in the parliament against the attacks on Iran - dubbed Netanyahu and Trump 'two megalomaniacs, not to say psychopaths' as he described his struggle as a minority view against the Iran war. “We are talking about two megalomaniacs, not to say psychopaths. They don't really care. And I'm saying that, you know, seriously, it's not a joke and I'm not trying to mock them, although I do, but that's not my intention in saying that they proved not once, not twice, that they care only about themselves and their own fate," he said, "They don't care about the Iranian people, for sure. And they don't care about even their own people." He added that Iran had 'made a huge mistake' in launching strikes on the Gulf region - but said it was probably part of the plan by the US and Israel. "Perhaps Trump and Netanyahu had that in mind. Obviously, they would like to drag those states into the war," he claimed. "Unfortunately, we are dealing with fanatics across the board. The government of Israel is no different from the government of Iran... Both are theocratic fascists.” He also claimed that the situation was closer to a third world war than even the Cuban missile crisis of the 1960s - and had some praise for Russia and China's response. "I think that thus far, Russia and China, which again, I'm very critical of the regimes, that's not to say I support those regimes, but I think that they've been thus far relatively moderate and responsible, as opposed to Israel and the United States," he said. "I think that the main element that can stop the war now is the public in the United States. It's very clear, according to the polls, that the vast majority in the United States, including Republicans and including Republican senators and members of the House of Representatives, are against the war," he added. Cassif is a member of the Communist Party of Israel and part of the Hadash (Democratic Front for Peace and Equality) coalition in the Knesset. The US and Israel attacked Iran on Saturday morning. Tehran said it was responding with strikes on Israel and US assets in the region, with explosions reported in countries right across the Gulf region. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was confirmed dead in a strike on Saturday. It comes after a number of rounds of talks between the Americans and Iranians."
