"Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva stated that the United Nations have lost credibility in the face of global conflicts, referring to the current crisis in the Middle East, during his participation in the 39 Regional Conference of the FAO for Latin America and the Caribbean in Brasilia on Wednesday. According to the president, this lack of action reflects a discredit that threatens the very function of the multilateral body, and he emphasised the need to prioritise peace as the only path for the development of humanity. "The UN is yielding to the fatalism of the lords of wars. We want peace, because peace is the only possibility to make humanity move forward as people," Lula said. The Brazilian leader also criticised the persecution against Cuba, emphasising that the crisis on the island is not the result of productive incapacity, but of those who want to see it deprived. In addition to the economic, commercial and financial blockade for more than 60 years, imposed by the United States and recently intensified by the Government of Donald Trump. "Cuba is not going hungry because it does not know how to produce. Cuba is going hungry because they do not want Cuba to have certain things that everyone should have the right to," the president said. Lastly, Lula reinforced Brazil's position in promoting peace, social justice and international cooperation without ideological prejudices in defense of the sovereignty of Latin American countries in the face of external pressures."
