Improved Thunderstorm Forecasting Researched

It is known that thunderstorms tend to form on warm, humid days when the air is unstable. However, accurately predicting where a storm will occur is difficult. A research team from the UK and Austria has developed a physical explanation for why thunderstorms form in certain locations and not others by analyzing data from millions of thunderstorms in Africa. This new thunderstorm model is presented in the journal "Nature".
