"Over 80 bodies of Iranian sailors were brought to shore in southern Sri Lanka on Thursday after the naval warship IRIS Dena sank off the coast near Galle following what US officials said was a submarine strike. Footage captured in Galle shows police standing by as vehicles carrying the bodies and ambulances arrive at the hospital. The Iranian frigate IRIS Dena was sunk by a US submarine in international waters roughly 40 nautical miles off Sri Lanka's southern coast on Wednesday, according to US defence officials. Sri Lanka's navy launched a rescue operation after receiving a distress call, recovering over 80 bodies and rescuing 32 sailors from the water, while others remain missing. The vessel reportedly had about 180 crew members on board and was returning from a multinational naval exercise in India when it was struck. Iranian authorities condemned the attack and warned Washington it would 'bitterly regret' it, as tensions between the United States, Israel and Iran continue to escalate across the region. It comes after the US and Israel attacked Iran on Saturday. Tehran said it was responding with strikes on Israel and US assets, with explosions reported in countries right across the Gulf region. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was confirmed dead in a strike on Saturday. Earlier, several rounds of talks took place between the Americans and Iranians, with Tehran repeatedly insisting its nuclear programme was for peaceful purposes."
