Holi moly! - India’s Uttar Pradesh drenched in colours for epic annual festival

"In a dazzling display of colour and culture, thousands of revellers across Uttar Pradesh transformed the landscape into a vibrant rainbow as they celebrated the festival of Holi. Footage captured on Wednesday shows the festivities, with organisers unleashing vast quantities of gulal (vibrant, scented powder) into the air and onto colour-spraying revellers, creating clouds of colour that enveloped delighted crowds. Participant Anand Thakkar sharing his impressions of the festival. "I am a resident of this square, and these are my friends. We are all residents of this locality. Due to the Ganga-Jamuna culture, festivals are celebrated very well here. Holi is over now, and we will soon start preparing for Eid." State-of-the-art colour-spraying machines and strategically placed water tankers ensured that no one escaped the festive spirit, drenching participants in joyful hues. The celebrations also featured adrenaline-pumping cloth-tearing events that drew thunderous applause, adding a traditional sporting element to the colourful extravaganza. Another participant added, "While there is conflict and war across the world, here we share love and affection. Hindus and Muslims live together in harmony; we celebrate Eid, Diwali, and Holi as one." Holi, which embodies India's ‘thousand-year-old legacy’, is celebrated by millions in India and around the world. It symbolises the victory of good over evil and marks the end of winter. "
