Hong Kong mogul Jimmy Lai will not appeal national security

HONG KONG — Hong Kong pro-democracy media mogul Jimmy Lai will not appeal his national security conviction that saw him sentenced to 20 years behind bars last month, his legal team said on Friday, without providing a reason. The 78-year-old founder of the now-defunct Apple Daily newspaper was found guilty in February on charges of foreign collusion and seditious publication and received the harshest penalty doled out so far under a Beijing-imposed national security law.
