Vantaa arson suspect placed on police remand for further interrogation

The Eastern Uusimaa District Court on Friday sent the suspect of Vantaa arson case to remand into police custody for further investigation, police said. The court issued the order after police produced him before the court seeking remand into custody. Police are investigating into the suspected arson took place at Pähkinärinte area in Vantaa on March 3 as five murders, two attempted murders and aggravated vandalism. Earlier, the Eastern Uusimaa Police interrogated the suspect and found that the fire was set deliberately. Police, however, did not disclose details information at the preliminary stage of the investigation. They are also waiting for autopsy reports of the bodies and results of other tests. The preliminary investigation may continue for several months and will involve various authorities. Five people of a same family were burnt to deathin the fire at a residential building at Pähkinärinte in Vantaa on March 3. The victims were a couple aged between 30 and 40 and their three children aged 3, 6 and 8 with Somali background. Police arrested a 70-year-old native Finnish man, a resident of the same building as the suspect of the arson.
