Parañaque shooting suspect arrested, dispute among neighbors eyed in killing

MANILA, Philippines — Police said a dispute between neighbors is being looked into as the possible motive behind a deadly shooting at a residential complex in Parañaque City that left two people dead and four others injured, as authorities announced the arrest of the suspect during a press briefing on Saturday at the PD Multi-Purpose Hall of the Southern Police District (SPD) headquarters in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City. PBGen. Randy Arceom SPD director, said the suspect, identified only as alias “William,” 59, was arrested at around 8:30 p.m. on Friday inside a condominium unit in Barangay Moonwalk, Parañaque City. Police said the arrest came a little over 48 hours after the shooting incident that occurred at around 7:59 p.m. on Wednesday inside a residential complex in Barangay Marcelo Green. Investigators said the suspect allegedly opened fire during the incident, killing alias “Edwin,” 57, and alias “Arjay,” 29, both residents of Parañaque City. Four other individuals were wounded in the attack and were rushed to nearby hospitals. Authorities said two 9mm pistols, several magazines and live ammunition were recovered from the suspect during the arrest, along with personal items believed to be related to the incident. Police said charges for two counts of murder, four counts of frustrated murder and violation of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, are being prepared for filing before the Parañaque City Prosecutor’s Office through inquest proceedings.
