MANILA, Philippines — At least 976 families displaced by a massive fire that struck NIA Road in Barangay Pinyahan, Quezon City are temporarily staying in evacuation centers across the city, Mayor Joy Belmonte said Saturday evening, March 7. Belmonte said the affected residents are currently housed in eight evacuation sites: Flora Ylagan High School, Pinyahan Covered Court, San Isidro Labrador Parish, NIA Covered Court, the NIA Building, Pinyahan Elementary School, the Napocor Office, and the NHA Balik Probinsiya Covered Court at the Manila Seedling compound. The mayor personally visited the affected area and several evacuation centers on Saturday to check on the condition of displaced families. City officials said modular tents have been installed at the evacuation sites, while residents are receiving food packs, hygiene kits, medicines, blankets, mats, and other basic necessities. “The Quezon City government continues to assist affected QCitizens and provide other services they may need,” Belmonte said. The Social Services Development Department (SSDD) is also continuing its assessment of affected households, while the city government is coordinating additional assistance for families displaced by the fire. The blaze that hit the residential community along NIA Road in Barangay Pinyahan on Friday night escalated to Task Force Bravo before it was declared under control early Saturday morning.
