Caught in crossfire - Children injured in US-Israeli strikes get treated at Tehran's Mofid Hospital

"Several children wounded in the US-Israeli strikes on Iran were seen receiving intensive care at Mofid Children's Hospital in Tehran. Footage filmed on Saturday shows young patients being treated in hospital beds, some hooked up to medical equipment, as doctors worked to save those caught up in the bombardment. "The child was outside with his mother in a car when a missile hit nearby, sending shrapnel through the door. One fragment struck my son, while his mother was caught in the blast and suffered severe bleeding," recalled the father of the young patient. Dr Hashemi, head of the intensive care unit, said a 14-month-old baby suffered severe brain injuries in the strikes and underwent emergency surgery, but was declared brain-dead four days later. "What we are witnessing is so heartbreaking that it is difficult to even put into words," she said. Earlier, Iranian government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani said children accounted for 30 percent of those killed so far in the US-Israeli bombing campaign. The Iranian Red Crescent said 1,332 civilians have been killed since the start of the offensive. Tensions escalated in the Middle East after the United States and Israel launched joint military operations against Iran on Saturday, with President Donald Trump vowing to "raze their missile industry to the ground". Tehran said it was responding with strikes on Israel and US assets in the region, with explosions reported in countries right across the Gulf region. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was confirmed dead in a strike on Saturday. The escalation follows a number of rounds of talks between the Americans and Iranians."
