ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N) senior leader Khurram Dastgir Khan stated that the escalation of the Middle East conflict is having repercussions on petroleum prices, yet Pakistan is well-prepared, coordinating with the Saudi government for additional fuel supply, while the Prime Minister is evaluating measures to ensure maximum relief if conditions deteriorate in the next 15 days. While speaking to a local news channel, Dastgir Khan confirmed that steps are underway to shield citizens from rising fuel prices, adding that the public should trust the government and not panic, emphasizing that sufficient reserves and proactive steps are already in place to ensure relief and stability. He stated that the situation is currently under control, with the government closely monitoring developments, adding that the Minister of Petroleum and Finance are in active talks with Saudi authorities, who have committed to supplying additional petroleum via Red Sea routes if prices rise further. Khurram Dastgir Khan warned that if the Middle East conflict continues, the next few days could become more challenging. He assured that the Prime Minister will provide maximum relief to citizens if needed, emphasizing that sufficient reserves are currently available to manage potential supply disruptions. Speaking about the IMF, he added that if Pakistan provides relief using its own resources without taking additional loans, the IMF would have no reservations. Khurram Dastgir Khan further stated while responding a query, that fuel prices have not risen as much as was initially expected, highlighting that while the effects of the Middle East conflict have impacted Pakistan just as they have the rest of the world, the government is fully prepared to manage the situation. He expressed hope that the situation would remain under control, assuring that all necessary measures are in place to protect citizens from potential disruptions.
