The MLB season hasn't even started yet, but Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is reminding Toronto Blue Jays fans of their epic postseason run. Guerrero Jr. was in Miami last night representing the Dominican Republic at the World Baseball Classic. In just their first game, the vibes for Guerrero Jr.'s squad were already immaculate. They were knotted 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth against Nicaragua, before a home run by Junior Caminero kicked off the Dominican dominance. As the Tampa Bay Rays' youngster rounded the bases, Toronto Blue Jays fans were hit by déjà vu. There was Guerrero Jr., holding out a custom home run jacket for his fellow countryman. Perhaps the slick coat wasn't as flashy as the Blue Jays' home run jacket. But it was customized with all of the players' names and nicknames. The Dominicans blew the game open in the eighth inning, as Julio Rodriguez of the Seattle Mariners and Oneil Cruz of the Pittsburgh Pirates both smashed baseballs over the fence at loneDepot Park in Miami. While Guerrero Jr. didn't homer himself, he did have two RBIs and a run in the game. The Blue Jays had and on again, off-again relationship with the home run jacket. However, they brought it back for their memorable postseason run last October. Considering how close they were to winning it all, perhaps it's no surprise that the 26-year-old Jays' star wanted to repurpose the tradition for his country. Guerrero Jr. and the Dominican Republic next play on Sunday, March 8, against the Netherlands. Knockout stage action in the World Baseball Classic begins on Friday, March 13.
