KARACHI: Women play a fundamental role in the development, stability and prosperity of society, said Sindh Chief Minister’s Adviser on Rehabilitation, Giyan Chand Essrani in his message on the occasion of International Women’s Day. He said Pakistani women have proven their abilities in every sphere of life and are rendering remarkable services in politics, education, healthcare, economy, media and social work. The adviser said International Women’s Day renewed the commitment to ensure equal rights and opportunities for women. “The dream of progress cannot be realised without making women economically and socially strong,” he said, adding that protecting women’s rights and ensuring them a dignified status was the hallmark of a civilized society. Essrani emphasised that collective efforts were required to eliminate all forms of discrimination and violence against women. He said the Sindh government was continuing all possible measures for the welfare and empowerment of women. He said the participation of women in Rescue 1122 and other emergency services was encouraging. Female rescuers were playing a significant role in saving lives and were setting an example by performing their professional duties even in difficult situations. He said that the training and inclusion of women in Rescue 1122 had helped improve emergency services for the public during critical situations. He said that the Pakistan Peoples Party had always taken practical steps to safeguard women’s rights, dignity and empowerment. He noted that under the leadership of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, the foundation for women’s political, social and economic empowerment was laid, which continues to this day. He added that under the leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, several initiatives were being undertaken for the welfare and development of women.
