Attacks by Israel and the United States are targeting Tehran and places across Iran. Shortly before the war began, people took to the streets to demonstrate against the theocratic regime. The Islamic Republic clamped down brutally. Protests for freedom and democracy cost thousands of Iranians their lives. Iranians continue to live within the constraints imposed by a government that tolerates little deviation from its interpretation of Islam. It dictates what clothing women are allowed to wear in public, and the slightest deviations can be severely punished.
