"Metropolitan police made arrests on Sunday as hundreds of people joined the Al Quds Day rally in London Footage shows police officers restraining protesters as well as massive crowds gathering while chanting and holding various flags and signs. "It's outrageous. The Zionists and their supporters have been trying to ban this march for a very long time. They want to ban it not because it's violent. We have 40 odd years of peaceful demonstrations. In all this time, despite all the propaganda, there hasn't been a single charge," a protester said. "For 47 years, our Jewish brothers and sisters have marched along with us in these marches. It's only Zionists that oppose these marches. It's only Zionists that try to stop us, but that won't deter us, and we'll keep on marching. We'll keep her turning up to these protests," another added. Some demonstrators have criticised the UK government over its warnings before the protest. "Any critic of Zionism and Israel is denoted as anti Semitism, and it has got a prison sentence behind it. So it's part of their playbook, to contain freedom of expression, because they are part of this declining Western Empire, together with the United States, and they can only resort to violence and repression in order to prevent their downfall," a protester stated. "If government gets away with this, as we have seen in the past, then no one will be safe, no voice will be heard," another continued. At least 12 people were arrested at the Al Quds Day demonstrations and counter-protests on various offenses, including showing support for a proscribed organisation, threatening or abusive behaviour, and failure to remove a face covering. This comes after the Home Secretary approved a police request to ban the annual march to 'prevent serious public disorder'. The demonstration was restricted to a static rally on the Albert Embankment."
