Peso weakens further to 59.87 vs $1

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine peso has weakened to a new record low against the US dollar, with the central bank reportedly intervening to prevent the currency from sliding to the 60-level. The local currency closed at 59.87 per dollar as oil prices continue to surge into the third week of the Middle East conflict.
