"Mexico's Environment Ministry launched the reintroduction of the Mexican wolf in Durango, marking the species' return to the Sierra Madre Occidental after around 50 years in the wild. Footage released on Sunday shows four wolves, which arrived from the United States on Friday, being placed in a pre-release enclosure to help them adapt before their eventual return to the wild. Authorities said the animals would be monitored using tracking devices and cameras, while officials also work with local rural communities to support coexistence between conservation efforts and farming activities. The new release site is in the communities of El Tarahumar and Bajios del Tarahumar, in the municipality of Santa Catarina de Tepehuanes. The reintroduction is part of a long-running Mexico-US binational recovery programme involving environmental authorities from both sides, as well as universities and wildlife agencies."
