'Heartfelt greetings to Maduro!' - Venezuelan IntMin declares Rodriguez-led govt remains 'Chavista' despite US capture of president

"Venezuelan Minister of Interior, Justice and Peace Diosdado Cabello paid tribute to imprisoned president Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Celia Flores, declaring the national government is still ‘Chavista’ in his speech in Trujillo on Monday. “We're sending greetings from here in Trujillo, from this beautiful street, to our brother President and to our comrade Cilia Flores. A heartfelt greeting from Trujillo,” Cabello said to applause from the crowd. “They came, they attempted coups, assassinations, and they took our brother President Nicolas Maduro, saying, ‘Chavismo is finished’. And the thugs came out tomorrow saying, ‘I'm in Caracas because Chavismo is finished’. The reality is different because Chavismo continues to govern here with our sister Delcy Rodriguez at the helm,” Cabello continued. Named after its founder, Hugo Chavez, Venezuela's late leader, Chavismo is a political ideology based on the ideas and programs associated with Chavez and later Nicolas Maduro. Last week, the Interior Minister claimed that Maduro anticipated he could be arrested and left 'patriotic instructions' for Delcy Rodriguez, who, after his arrest, assumed the role of acting president in January 2026. Maduro and the First Lady were captured during a US military operation on January 3. Washington said Maduro is being held on charges of 'narco‑terrorism' - a claim the former leader has repeatedly denied."
