Pakistan maintains balanced stance on Ukrainian conflict despite external pressure: Russian envoy

ISLAMABAD: Russia’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Albert P Khorev, said that despite enormous external pressure, Pakistan has maintained a balanced and consistent stance on the Ukrainian conflict. “We hope they will join us in drafting a strategic document, which is intended to establish the political and legal foundation for an indivisible continental security architecture and a system of cooperation across Eurasia.” Russian envoy said this in a statement on Tuesday while giving an update on the situation in and around Ukraine. Unlike the destructive efforts of Western-oriented forces to intensify fragmentation in Eurasia, Russia is promoting cooperative models of interaction across our shared continent. In addition to the well-known concept of Eurasian security – based on the principle of “regional solutions to regional problems” – we are collaborating with our ally, the Republic of Belarus, to develop a Eurasian Charter on Diversity and Multipolarity in the 21st Century, he pointed out. In the context of peacefully resolving the Ukrainian crisis, the envoy stated that Russia continues to be guided by the specific understanding reached during the meeting between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in Anchorage, Alaska, in August of 2025. The number of Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory increased by 42,000 in 2025, exceeding 130,000 in total. On average, Mr. Albert remarked Ukrainian forces struck Russian settlements more than 350 times per day last year. As a result of these attacks in 2025, at least 1,065 people, including 293 children, were killed. Since February 2022, the number of victims of Ukrainian attacks has already exceeded 26,000 civilians, he said. Recently, the Russian Envoy said European powers hostile toward our country have begun cracking down on the so-called Russian “shadow fleet” to exert economic pressure on Russia. One of the most egregious recent acts of terrorism in neutral waters occurred on March 3 of this year when Ukrainian naval and aerial drones attacked the Russian LNG tanker “Arctic Metagaz” in the central Mediterranean, he warned. Attacking a civilian commercial vessel constitutes a gross violation of international law. It was a targeted attack on a civilian object that could have led to loss of life and environmental damage. In other words, the Russian Ambassador stated that it is both a terrorist act and a war crime. Notably, the attack occurred in proximity to Malta, an EU member state, yet none of the European states have condemned the incident thus far. Europeans have not given up on seizing the Bank of Russia’s frozen assets held in EU financial institutions, including the Euroclear depository. However, despite their tough rhetoric, EU leaders failed to reach an agreement on the direct confiscation of assets at the December 2025 summit. Instead of stealing Russian funds, the Europeans agreed to allocate €90 billion to Ukraine from the general EU budget, once again placing a burden on European taxpayers As has been noted on numerous occasions, Russia does not view the conflict in Ukraine as a standoff between Russia and Ukraine, but rather as an indirect confrontation with the “collective West,” which refuses to accept the loss of a world order based on colonial principles and Western dominance. Clearly, the conflict in Ukraine has become a powerful catalyst for a new multipolar world, the outcome of which will influence the global balance of power for years to come.
