PPP cancels gathering at Garhi Khuda Bakhsh

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has announced the cancellation of its traditional central gathering at GarhiKhuda Bakhsh scheduled for April 4 to commemorate the death anniversary of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, citing the prevailing regional security situation as the primary reason behind the decision. The announcement was made by PPP Secretary General Humayun Khan on Tuesday, following directives from party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. The PPP Secretary General said this year’s anniversary of the party’s founding leader will be observed at the district level across the country. “All party organizations, including elected representatives and ticket holders, have been instructed to organize Quran recitation ceremonies (Quran Khawani) in their respective districts to pay tribute to Bhutto’s services and sacrifice,” he said. Humayun Khan said the decision to forgo the central event was made in light of the current regional circumstances. Instead of a large gathering, commemorative events will take place locally throughout the country, he said. Copyright Business Recorder, 2026
